Lucia Di Landro

Lucia is a Jesmonite artist based in North London.  

Lucia works with Jesmonite to hand make objects for the home and loves how unique and versatile the material is. 

Her inspiration comes from the colours of the Amalfi Coast. Particularly, the mosaics found in the small sea side town of Vietri. A lot of her work will feature patterns to resemble these mosaics. 

The Design Process

I spend a lot of my time designing my products. If I am making terrazzo coasters, I like to play around with different colours until I feel like I have captured the sense of Italy.

I then carefully colour match (this is the hardest part!) pigments to the colours I want to appear on the coaster and mix up a small amount of Jesmonite to use as an aggregate. 

Depending on the design I have chosen for the coaster, I may carefully place the terrazzo pieces into a mould in a pattern I like or I might mix them into the Jesmonite mixture itself and then pour into the mould.

Each coaster is unique as they are all handmade.
